The ABB Safeball is an innovative and ergonomic machine control. It consists of a ball with two built-in push buttons, one on each side. A light but clearly noticeable click signals that the push buttons have been deliberately activated. In order to start or operate a machine, both buttons must be pressed at the same time. If one or more push buttons are released, the machine is given a stop command. The ergonomic shape of the Safeball is perfectly adapted to the human hand and thus supports the natural grasping reflex. The Safeball offers a high degree of protection against manipulation and thus reduces the risk of injury. The simple connection to the AS-i bus and the fact that no cover of the control elements is required make the Safeball flexible to install. ABB Safeballs can be used for either one-hand or two-hand applications. Two-hand controls are used, for example, on presses and semi-automatic machines with manual loading.
