The braking resistors are used to reduce the excess energy in the intermediate circuit. They are intended for use with the PM240-2 and PM240 power modules (mounted to the side next to the power modules), which have an integrated braking chopper and cannot feed regenerative energy back into the network. For regenerative operation, e.g. braking a flywheel with a large moment of inertia, a braking resistor must be connected to convert the energy generated into heat. For the Power Modules sizes FSD to FSGX, the braking resistors should be placed outside the control cabinet or outside the switchgear room in order to remove the resulting heat loss from the area of the Power Modules. This reduces the air conditioning effort. Each braking resistor is equipped with a temperature switch. In order to avoid consequential damage in the event of thermal overload of the braking resistor, the temperature switch should be evaluated. The braking resistor is available for the sizes FSA to FSC and for the Power Module PM240-2 (sizes FSC to FSF). There is an optional plug-in Braking Module for the FSGX frame size.
